How does Google PR impact a website ranking for a word?
Can any one explain it please?
I read here http://www.webpronews.com/insiderreports/2006/02/21/the-unimportance-of-pagerank and in a lot of other sites that Google does not give as much importance to the page rank as before. Try getting as many back links as possible from reputed sites. That will boost your ranking.
Supposedly PR has very little impact on ranking (supposedly) my thoughts are that it still is part of the algorithm but not as major as it was back in the day.
I struggle to see the point of PR then, if the PR does not relate (in any way?) to how a page is ranked? Seems a little odd?
Its really a great information reg the page rank. I have some small qusetions reg this??
1. Do back links kelp our site for getting good page rank
2. Is there any other search engines which gives page ranks
I hope i will get the reply.
The pagerank of your site is a direct derivative of the amount of backlinks with pagerank that you have, for instance, if you have 10 links that are PR1 you will get a pagerank 1 in the next update, if you have 10 Pagerank 6 links, you might get a Pagerank 5 in the next update.
Ive got the actual numbers that you need hanging around somewhere, I would need to dig it up, BUT it doesnt really mean anything other than that fuzzy feeling you get from having a better pagerank, so dont get too hung up on it..
2) other search engines (yahoo and bing) use similar metrics, but they dont tell you a figure. Bing does have something similar in its webmaster tools, but I dont think its a 1-10 scale.
Think of it this way, let's say CNN.com (PR 10) is covering some news about coffee. It mention several times "coffee" on its page.
Compare to Starbucks website (PR 7).
Search for "coffee". Starbucks will be so far ahead.
So PR is just a little indicator. While Starbucks coffee, have tons of links that anchored "coffee".
Sorry if this is a bad example. Hope you understand what I mean.
Yeah this thing is going on with Google now a days. It ranks many of a website in its first page eg top 10 with PR0...doesn't this tell us that PR has a little impact now a days. I am also in SEO field and i have been told by my senior that PR has a little impact on rankings.
Thanks

PR is not that important as it used to be. The backlinks are the most important now so if you want to rank well in search engines you need to have a well planned promotion strategy. there are several ways to achieve that but every site needs to have a unique strategy.
There are many ways by which you can increase your page ranking. Here are few of them.
1.Enter a specific title for the title meta tag of each page.
2.Enter a specific description for the description meta tag of each page.
3 Enter alt tags that are both relevant for your viewers AND Google's spiders.
HI,
PR is important for trading links with those who still believe it is an important measurement of how good a site is. So in a way, it does effect your ranking because it will determine how many people will swap links with you.

google does not judge a site by single word. It takes into consideration the whole website content. And like many users said you need to get linked to high PR sites in order to increase your site creditability. Here is a table for you, you can judge by yourself. How and which sites you need to get linked with :
what PR4 link is worth, or a PR5 link is worth compared to a PR3 link, for example, so to try and make this easy to understand,
PR2 = 0.2 of a PR3
PR3 = 1 of a PR3
PR4 = 5 x PR3
PR5 = 25 xPR3
PR6 =125 xPR3
PR7 =625 xPR3
Although PR may not bring significant SEO value but it determine two facets that do impact search results (1) citation and co-occurrence and (2) the degree of authority passed from other websites. The benefit is by having more PageRank flowing throughout a website, you can find and identify the pages with the most authoritative links pointing at them though. As a result, you can put your new found PageRank to work over time to augment other areas of your website that suffer from link attrition (which is common as a website grows).
