Thread: google hacked by chinese government

If you havent already seen this, take a look at a post put up today by google, having identified a serious hack on gmail, and other google properties, along with 20+ US Bluechip companies.

The interesting snippet is that they were trying to target gmail accounts of political dissenters in China - so that would indicate that this hack attempt was by the Chinese authorities... a very worrying trend!

Adobe said that they were also one of the companies hacked.

Worrying that China have been attempting to hack Google (and others). Not surprised though, thought it would have happened sooner - they're pretty protective of the internet content there (although they claim it's open and uncontrolled).

Its chinese problem to dominate everything. They are prohibiting their citizens to acess google and now they have crossed limits by hacking email.
Thats really bad news.

It is of course entirely possible that its been going on for years, but never noticed before. I used to run a free webhost a few years back, and I had to IP ban all of China and other parts of the far east because of hack attempts (by the time I had 3 or 4 thousand websites hosted it was happening every day).

as they say knowledge is power and it seems China has a goal of being a major player in the world. It's no surprise that they have gone down the hacking route. Hacking by government bodies is not China specific the west is just better at using it for PR purposes.

Wiki says The Red Hacker Alliance is an informal group of Chinese hackers that at one time had over 80,000 members, making it one of the largest hacking groups in the world. In December 2004, the group took down their website and became inactive until March 2005, when it regrouped and relaunched its site. Computer World Australia and InformationWeek both reported that members of the Red Hacker Alliance were involved in a planned DDOS attack against CNN.com on April 19, 2008. CNN reported that they took preventative measures after news broke of the impending attack.

Thing that has me most fascinated is that this is not a war between countries (because this is a war, albeit of the colder variety), but a war between a country and a corporation, and the corporation is clearly the good guy. Wouldn't that have messed with George Orwell's head?

I think Title is not appropriate because it is the problem of hacker not Chinese government
