Recently i come across a software which claims to be effective in building inbound links. It works on the line of from where your competitor is getting links and so on. What may be the better way for managing this huge task?

To use link building software is very good LotusJump is very effective link-building software. You enter in your keywords and based on the keywords, the software generates hundreds of different tasks for you to complete to improve your seo.

They are no longer the magic wand that got thousands of backlinks for a site before. Now those type of automated software generated links are considered SPAMMY by Google as they do not come editorially.
So people understood this fact and very few use them these days for fear of being blacklisted/penalized by Google.

Better is to build manually some links by populating forums and blogs ( niche related ), submitting articles to ezine or digg, press releases, ebooks etc.

I don't quite trust those software, who knows how Big G will see those artificial links in the future...

We can not know about how "Big G" will see those in the future but at this point you can use bookmarking software. You just risk. That's al. Some of us don't have too much time to manually build links so that's tha only alternative. Most of the bookmarking software types have a setting for how spammy you want to bookmark. Just go for the least spammy method and you will probably have success.

Many of these software has a kind of 'spammy' filter. But it's still up to the user on how to deal with such a software. If you can easily add 100 links you're likely to do so. But that's wrong use of bookmarking software. Instead using it right it can be a great tool to get links which lead to further linking by others (higher quality).

To martin b: As I do know there is now free software existing. I have great experiences with Bookmarking Demon (see link in signature). It's worth every penny.
