Exclamation Explaining/Clarifying No follow links

I keep getting different opinions and explainations on No follow/Do follow links so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

The way I understand no follow link is that if a website has no follow link that means the website linking to it will not get link juice. In other words it would still be counted as a backlink, get crawled by the various bots but there just won't be any flow of page ranking or anything like that.

Is that the right definition please? Because I've been coming across lots of people saying No follow also means it would not get crawled by search engines as well as the no flow of page ranking.

Would love to get your opinions and understanding of this.

Thanks!!

Hi Connect 4 Free. First, different search engines interact with the nofollow html attribute in different ways.
- Google states that nofollow links will not pass PR and won't be followed by their spider. But tests show that they follow links.
- Yahoo doesn't include nofollow links in their ranking calculation but their spider follows it. The page holding the link is also shown in the SERP for the keyword/anchor text.
- Bing doesn't include nofollow links in it's calculations as well but I ain't sure if their spider follows it.

I hope to we could get additional information from others.

I think this explains clearly the concept of nofollow: http://searchenginewatch.com/3634387

Thumbs up Great stuff

Thanks so much Menj and Archangel, that definitely did clarify no follow links for me, especially that article, very straight forward and simple.

Its just amazing the way so many people have definitions and opinions about nofollow links, which obviously doesn't sound right but they so strongly keep saying it's right. For me, the most important thing when it comes to no follow links is that they get indexed as backlinks, I'm not overly bothered about page ranking and sculpting.
