Thread: Confused – How do you get 1000’s of links?

I have been building websites for about 10 years on and off, but have been working hard in this field for the past 2 years. I have built 10 fairly good sites for myself and some for local small businesses. I have tried lots of methods of getting links, forum posts, blogs, blog comments, buying links, posting articles and link exchanges with other relevant sites. None of these seem to last very long and after a short time the links seem to go off the search engines radar and I end up back at square one.
I see other sites with 1000’s of links pointing to them, yet I struggle to get into double figures. At times, I have spent weeks at a time, creating accounts in forums, article sites etc, tweaking the web pages for the keywords but just seem to be hitting my head against a brick wall.

I have spent night after night reading through sites like this picking up advice, techniques and new sites which may help. I have adopted only white hat techniques to date and never had my sites de-ranked.

I appreciate there must be a lot of work involved in building up a good link structure for a site, but at the rate I’m going, I’ll be an old man before I’ve got 100 links pointing to my sites.

Well, thats the eternal question for anyone interested in maximizing their SEO...

There are lots of ways of developing a good backlink profile, but building links into the thousands does indeed require either a good bit of work, or a great idea.

The main thing that you have to remember is that if people have a genuine reason to link to you, ie. by linking to you they in turn gain something, then they will do.

You can also reverse this thinking slightly, and provide large amounts of people with something in return for a link, for instance, this site currently has around 450,000 links pointing at it (in a little under six months from launch) - how has it got that many?

Simple, I have built quite a few SEO plugins for popular CMS systems, and they are free for other webmasters to use, as long as they link back to this site.

Another good way of getting mass amounts of links is providing your data to them in the form of a widget, as long as you have anything that is of interest to other webmasters within your niche ofcourse.

The other, more expensive way, is simply by buying links from thousands of sites. Be aware ofcourse that most large internet companies have link building budget that span into the tens of thousands of dollars per month!
