Default What makes a better quality link

Relevancy of the site linking to you ... make sure that the site that you are getting to link to you is of your related industry / vertical or niche.

    2. Go for long term links... make sure that the site you are putting your link on, will keep it there for a long period of time. The older, the better. You dont want your hard earned links disappearing over a period of time as this will effect your PageRank.

    3. One way linking ... links that are one-way are better than link exchanges. So, a site linkig to you, carries more weight than if you do a two-way link exchange with them. Google gives one-way links more points.

    4. Link location ... a link higher up in the page is better than in the footer or in the middle of the page.

    5. The more links the better! Try and see how many links your competitors have, then try and beat that!

    6. Have quality anchor text links ... this is important. Make sure that the keyword(s) or phrase that make up the link are of relevance to the keywords you are seeking to be listed on top in Google. Try and get the link to have these keyword in them.

    Hi,

Many people use Google PageRank as a measure of the quality of a link target - usually derived from the little green bar that you see when you download the Google toolbar. This is a mistake.

The score that is shown on the toolbar does not represent the real PageRank that Google assigns to the page. It is notoriously inaccurate almost to the point of being meaningless: it should only be taken as a very rough guide and in my opinion should be marked ‘for amusement only’.

Nice to have all this info in one place

The most important part of this post should be the part where you take you competitors' links and add more. This tendency of getting better then your competitor is the best thing that happens to the internet and to every industry. The bigger the competition the better the product. We should thake the methods of our competitors seriously and try to improve them. This way we will do a lot of good to the users and to ourselves. It's not true that you shoudn't look at your competitors or copy them. That should be the first thing you do when starting a business..

    Good and useful post BTW

Very good post indeed. It would help newbies and some oldies a lot. I might add that - once a goal is achieved, one should not keep idle as competitors are not sitting around. So, one should continually keep on pushing for new sources of links, new ideas and so on.

Cool Re: What makes a better quality link

A direct url link is useless. An anchor text is fairly important.
link exchange.and .
Days of link exchange is a thing of the past. Check carefullly, if the link exchange page itself is indexed!
If the page is not indexed - even thematic links will do nothing to boost your SERPs.

Is not link building in social networks a great thing nowadays? I mean it started with web 2.0 that everything gets more and more connected with each other. I think being able to build an audience/ community is best way to increase PR.

Look for authority sites, those are sites which have had established reputations and credibilty on search engines. Mostly those are sites that has a good PR and good position on search engines. If you can get links from more of them, then you will you see the good result.

One way links is one of the most recommended ways of building links, unlike reciprocal links that google sees as a spamming method of building links if over done.

You missed the most important tip!

You often hear the words 'linkable property' starting to be mentioned more often... ie you need to have some content that is worthy of being linked to.

I think that anchors are the most important in these tips. Because as my experience shows google is matching your website to the keywords according to these anchor texts.
