Default #1 on Google with with quotation marks, but not #1 without

    Hi !

First of all, hello to all of you ! I'm a brand new member, and I have a question but no answer so far. I searched this forum, the web , ... but somehow I can't find what I'm looking for.

Here is my problem : I have a blog (on my own domain) that ranks #1 on Google for a given keyphrase when surrounded with quotation marks, but does not rank #1 without quotation marks.
My question is : can I do some on-page optimization so that my site ranks #1 in a google search without quotation marks ?
I've read some stuff on keyword prominence, density, etc ... but it doesn't help. Or maybe I didn't get it right !

I really hope I will get a positive answer. I can't figure out what to do to solve this problem, and it's really driving me crazy.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Of course you can! Try using the term more without the quotations in your posts and throughout the site. Off site optimization woul dbe using the content and linking back to your website using the term without quotation marks.

The quoted search is a lot less competitive than the open one. That is because only websites using the exact phrase are competing for it.

At this stage I would say you need to do off-page optimisation (link building) so you become more competitive for all the phrases you use.

    Thanks for the advice !
I did some intensive link building with specific keyphrase as anchor text, but it's still frustrating to see other sites better ranked than mine with no exact keyphrase match (only keyword match).
As an example, compare the following requests :
    - best coffee in the world : google.com/#hl=en&pws=0&q=best+coffee+in+the+world
    - "best coffee in the world" : google.com/#hl=en&pws=0&q="best+coffee+in+the+world"

The top site is not the same for both requests. I know the difference between the two requests, but what does is take in terms of on-page optimization to have the same site ranking #1 ? Is it only a matter of keyword density, frequency, prominence and proximity ?
If so, what rules should be followed to achieve such an optimization ?

A nice day to everyone !

Red face Re: #1 on Google with with quotation marks, but not #1 without

we all know that there are 3 type of keyword match types in google search engine (google.co.in): Broad Match, Phrase Match and Exact Match

Broad Match (keywords or phrase without quote, bracket or etc. in google) : By using this matching option, google will return all the information or search results that match with all of your keywords.

Example: I just put “best coffee in the world” (without quote or bracket) in google and hit serach.

broad matchGoogle returned 64,000,000 web pages. What is this number mean?

If you using broad match to search “best coffee in the world”. Google will search and return all the web pages include blog that contains keyword:”Best”,”Coffee”,”Coffee in the World”,”Best Coffee”,”World”,”World Best Coffee” and “World Coffee” etc. There are 64,000,000 web pages that contains keyword “Best”,”Coffee” and “World”.

More of the results are irrelevant to what we are looking for.

In this case, you will received results like:

Best Coffee in the World (relevant)

    Coffee (irrelevant)

    Best (irrelevant)

Phrase Match : When you put “quotes” around your keywords or phrase, you are telling google that you only want results that with phrase in the same order. We use the same keyword phrase again, but this time add with “quotes” around the keyword phrase.

phrase match :This time, google only return 443,000 results. We received results which more relevant to what we want. If you are using phrase match in google. Google will return results that match with your keyword phrase.

Some of the results that i received:
    The Best Coffee Brand (relevant)
How to Make Best Coffee in the World (relevant)
    World's Best Coffee (relevant)

Exact Match : If you put [bracket] around your keyword phrases, you are telling to google that you only want results that exact phrase in the exact order, word for word, nothing more and nothing less.

I just simply put [bracket] around my keyword phrase ( [Best Coffee in the World] ) in google search and google will return results/web pages that only with the exact keyword phrase that you are looking for.

In this case, i only received result that contains:

Best Coffee in the World (relevant)
I always use broad match for my normal search in google, google usually return the most relevant result in its page 1 SERP (Search Enginer Result Pages).

I only use phrase match and exact match for my keyword research in internet marketing. In nutshell, It is a matters to your requirement of matches (broad, phrase or exact) and availability of that to your website.
