Hi,

I am in a dilemma here. I am doing SEO for a site and getting success in terms of ranks for the target keywords. Results are improving. However number of backlinks for the site are decreasing continously. Should i be happy or sad with this situation. My client is pushing me for the backlinks. Any suggestions?

google don't show all backlinks.. and that's normal.. i suggest to keep on gathering more quality and relevant links to increase backlinks.

Well backlinks do matter for rankings but if you are getting desired results for your website then you should go ahead with what you are doing. Always remember that the quality of backlinks matter not the quantity. So ask your client to focus on quality rather than quantity...

It usually happens when you are building with high speed for some pages and content of the site is not updated for a long time then Google may de-index some of the pages of your site

I have the same problem for my websites. But I don't think it's a big issue. Google show only 10 links but bing about 100...

Try to check your website backlinks by iwebtool

some time tools dont show proper backlinks....

It may overlooked by google because of the so called many links from your site or irrelevant, try to improve more and focus in the quality of your informative links through this it will be more helpful for you to generate backlinks.

Google, Yahoo!, and other search engines sometimes delist some of your back links... whenever I check my back links using Yahoo! Site Explorer.. I always notice that the total count is fluctuating by hundreds. Google is more stable with the total back links. If you want to check out the total back links on Google, use Google Webmaster instead of Google SERPs ("link:<mywebsite.com>").

the backlinks will differ in search engines .it will show the fluctuating results everytime. you can see how many backlinks of your site got listed by using different tools such as backlink checker and lot others which is available for free

back links should be added uninterrupted,
if your links befor are decreasing ,just check which has disappeared ,and take care links later

back links are always important. just check out the sources from where you are getting links. may be your links are being deleting or they are very less valued links. collect quality back links from different SEO sources for long term results.

There are two possibilities there. Perhaps it is the matter of Google dancing or you got domain penalty from Google side. Now check it your site penalty with penalty checker....If you dont have any then don't worry. It will be fine in 2 or 3 business days.

Use backlink tracking software - this will give you a more accurate link profile for the website. This way you can see when a webmaster removes a link, or changes it to nofollow - then you can email them and ask why it was removed!
