    Default A Tag Question

Sorry bout hte vague title, didn't know how to title a question like this.

Okay, so basically, I'm trying to figure out how to tag all my posts in a blog I'm doing. I wanna optimize the tags as best as I can, but don't know how many tags is too many, how many tags is too little, and what would make a tag too long and specific or too short and vague. One problem is I can't actually reveal what I'm blogging about without getting in trouble, so bear with me a little bit...

Here's an example of the problem I'm having:

I'm talking about clothes. The post is about what sizes, colors and types we offer.

Let's say we offer t-shirts, sweat shirts and coats.
Now let's say that each of the three come in four colors (they're all solid, just to make our lives easier): red, blue, green and yellow.
Now let's say they come in three sizes: small, medium and large.
Now I need to tag the post, which explains all of this in an easy to read format.

Here are tags I was thinking of, but didn't know which example would have been better...
First example: t-shirt, t-shirts, sweatshirt, sweatshirts, coat, coats, red, blue, green, yellow, small, medium, large
Second example: t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatshirt, red, blue, green yellow
Third example: red t-shirt, blue t-shirt, green t-shirt, yellow t-shirt (color the other two and that's it)
Fourth example: small red t-shirt, medium red t-shirt, large red t-shirt (size and color for t-shirts, sweatshirts and coats)

EDIT: So my question is: what is too vague of a tag, what is TOO specific, would all of those tags be needed? Or should I omit colors and sizes from my tag list and just use the original product? (T-shirts, sweaters, coats). Lastly, does plural matter? Should I use plural or non-plural, or should I use BOTH?

Or if someone has a better way to tag all that out, that would be great!

Sorry if it's too drawn out and stuff... I just really need to know!!! Thank you

It all really boils down to keyword research - what are the best possible keywords to target for each post?

I usually stick to a maximum of 5 tags per post, in order from most viable to least.

So would it have been okay to say something like... "t-shirts, sweatshirts, coats, sizes, colors"? And organize them by relevance, of course.

Bearing in mind this is an seo forum - your question is unrelated. When you say 'tags' I assume you mean internal navigation tags within the blog posts - not to be confused with Meta tags? (just to ensure we're talking about the same thing?).

I assume you are using WordPress or a similar platform? In which case tags are unrelated (to a certain extent at least!) to seo. The tags of a blog simply help users to identify the context of a blog post and navigate to posts of a similar subject, therefore use concise tags which will aid your users.

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick? :-S

Haha, oh dear, I do believe I made a mistake then!
Yes, you are right, these are blog tags, hah.
I'm still slightly new to some aspects of SEO VS. just plain UI, so I get confsued sometimes. But this helps clear the water!
    Thank you very much.

Google read 65 characters in title, so we chose these type of keywords that they are strong , relevant and not having many competition.
