Please excuse my ignorance in the following question:
I'm looking into purchasing a business that has been online for 12 years. Most all of their sales comes from wholesale, directly sold accounts. It's my belief that there is a market for retail.

Currently, the site ranks high in a broad category (i.e. #2 in trucks). The URLS have no indication of what's actually on the site (i.e. Explorers, Escalades, etc.). Also, the meta tags are very basic.

My question is this-due to the age of the site, and the ranking in the more broad category, once SEO work is done on the site, will search engines be more favorable to the site due to it's age? Or will it be like starting from square one?
